Earlier this year, I produced a song out of pocket, and I want to crowdfund an album of the same band. I launched a Kickstarter campaign, but for a variety of reasons I won’t go into right now, it fizzled out with two pledges totalling $21. Just as the campaign ended, I was contacted by a generous person who has helped me with needs and projects in the past, he had been off the grid for a few weeks and wanted to contribute, so I’m going to relaunch it, but I’m not sure if I even did it right the first time.
The goal that I set was just the amount needed to get the album produced and mastered. Then, I said that if we got $1000 more than the goal, we would press CDs, and if we got $1500 more than that, we would press vinyl. So the tiers were: if you pledge $5 or more, you get a CD if we raise enough for CDs, and if you pledge $20 or more, you get a record if we raise enough for records. I feel like maybe it’s a bad idea to stack those “if” clauses like that, but at the same time it feels like tagging that extra $2500 onto the $3500 goal isn’t realistic. Is $6000 for an album, including physical copies, reasonable for a nobody?
