The Senate Agriculture Committee is still on track to hold a markup hearing next week. Following last week’s pause on the Senate Banking Committee hearing on crypto market infrastructure legislation, insiders hope this newest version may reanimate prospects for a bill’s approval in the Senate.
The bill focuses on CFTC-regulated entities, as this Committee holds oversight over commodities. The goal is to address regulatory gaps for custodial and intermediary platforms in crypto spot markets while enabling digital asset innovation.
Patrick Witt, the Executive Director of the President’s Council of Advisors for Digital Assets, stated on X that the language was 80% similar to the CLARITY Act, the market infrastructure legislation approved by the House of Representatives.
“The newly released Senate Ag market structure bill is a quality bipartisan product that deserves the support of the entire committee at Tuesday’s markup. The text is +80% similar to House CLARITY—a bill that got the support of 17/24 Democrats in the Ag committee and nearly 40% of the entire Democrat caucus on the floor, including Reps. Nancy Pelosi, Pete Aguilar, and Ted Lieu. Of the changes that were made, most are concessions to Senator Booker to make the product even more bipartisan. Thank you to Chairman John Boozman for his leadership and commitment to transparency throughout this process. We encourage Senate Agriculture Committee Democrats to support this bipartisan legislation.”
The markup hearing is scheduled for next Tuesday, January 27, 2026.
